Tap into Local Talent at Apprenticeship Expo

Preston will soon play host to its biggest ever Apprenticeship Expo featuring fifty of the region’s top employers.

The expo, to be held at Preston Guild Hall on Tuesday 14 March between 12-7pm, will provide an opportunity for companies to talk face-to-face with potential candidates about Apprenticeships, training and job opportunities.

Employers already signed up to the event include Leyland Trucks, NHS, United Utilities and Harrison Drury.

The event, being run in partnership with Preston’s College, University of Central Lancashire and Lancashire Constabulary, will give organisations the chance to speak directly with school leavers, current College learners, adults and those currently in employment, about potential opportunities within their organisation.

Driven by Government policy, employers face big changes this year around hiring apprentices as ministers commit to three million new Apprenticeships in England over this parliament.

The Apprenticeship Levy, which comes into effect in April 2017, will also encourage more large organisations to commit to apprentice training, as well as introducing additional incentives for smaller organisations, including grants of up to £1,000 for those employing 16 to 18-year-olds.

Andrew Richardson, head of employer engagement & recruitment at Preston’s College, said: “Lancashire has a fantastic diversity of businesses that are realising the important contribution that investing in local talent can bring, rather than losing it elsewhere.

“The Expo will bring together employers to meet potential candidates, enabling businesses to showcase what they offer and ultimately recruit direct.”
