Lancashire County Council’s communications service wins national award for adoption campaign

Lancashire County Council’s communications service has just scooped Bronze in the Public Service Communications Excellence Awards 2018 for their ‘Thinking about adoption?’ campaign.

At the awards ceremony held last night (Tuesday 9 October) at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the campaign won the prestigious accolade. 19 other national public sector campaigns were presented with awards, from 70 applications received.

The awards, which celebrate excellence in public service communications, are open to all public service communications professionals working in organisations including central and local government, health and emergency services.

The ‘Thinking about Adoption?’ campaign is aimed at recruiting adoptive parents who are able to give a child a safe, permanent and loving family for life.

Lancashire County Council is one of the first adoption services nationally to develop early permanence and concurrent planning for adoption, so that more young children can go to live with their permanent family more quickly.

Research to target potential adoptive parents and to target effective communication with solid evaluation have supported the campaign’s effectiveness.

County Councillor Susie Charles, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Schools, said: “I’m well aware that our adoption service is good and that was also recognised earlier this year by Ofsted. I’m delighted that our campaign to find adopters who can give permanent homes to children has been acknowledged by others on a national stage.

“The adoption campaign has increased the number of enquiries and approvals on the previous year, which is great news for the children who need new permanent loving homes.”
