An award-winning recruitment business based in Chorley will be helping students at Parklands High School acquire the necessary skills to find employment.
Fresh Perspective Resourcing has been appointed to the voluntary role of Enterprise Advisor and will offer monthly strategic careers advice on site at Southport Road.
“We’re excited to be working with a local school and giving back to the Chorley community!” says Fresh Founder and Managing Director Laura Leyland, who was crowned ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ at the 2018 Sub36 Awards.
“We want to help young people understand the importance of nurturing softer skills such as empathy and communication, which are in high demand with employers.
‘Students who are not particularly academic, or who perhaps lack confidence, could be future entrepreneurs or business owners with the right support; not everyone has to work in an office and progress to management. Young people can be a success on their own terms by demonstrating drive, creativity and common sense.”
Having made the initial connection with Parklands through North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce’s Young Chamber, Fresh firstly took on a work experience student from the school.
Now the partnership has been formalised, Laura will fulfil the Enterprise Advisor role together with her sister Emily, who is the Talent and Acquisition Director at Fresh.
“We’ll be delivering workshops on CV and cover letter writing, along with talks on why certain types of social media posts can bite you on the bum when you’re searching for work!” says Emily. “Our intention is to offer pupils aged 12 and up a ‘fresh perspective’ on employment, as well as to inspire them to develop the skills and competencies needed to enjoy a bright, exciting future!”
Last Friday, Fresh took part in Parklands’ annual careers fair, which was attended by the Mayor of Chorley Margaret Rees, her Consort Roy Lees and Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP.
Patricia Berry, Careers Leader at Parklands High School, explains: “We expect that after five years of thorough grounding at Parklands, our pupils will have the potential to become the next Prime Minister, Shakespeare, Professor Stephen Hawking, BAFTA-winning actor or Nobel Peace Prize winner, or to choose any career path which will bring lifelong fulfilment.
‘We’re delighted to welcome Fresh on board as Enterprise Advisors. Laura and Emily have fantastic insights to share around the skills employers want and need – having led major recruitment campaigns in multiple sectors across the county. Likewise, their own entrepreneurial story of building an award-winning business will no doubt be hugely inspiring to our students.”
