Lancashire County Council continues to invest in waste management services after awarding a major support contract to Monks Contractors Ltd to deliver fleet hire and maintenance services for the next five years.
The new contract will see Monks Contractors provide 30 new Volvo tractor units and BMI waste trailers comprising of walking floor and ejectors to Lancashire Renewables Ltd, in order for them to transport municipal and recyclable waste on behalf of Lancashire County Council.
Lancashire Renewables Limited (formally Global Renewables Lancashire Operations Limited) was established for the operation and management of the two Central Waste Treatment Facilities (Thornton and Farington) built for the Lancashire Waste Contract.
The company’s key objectives are to receive, treat and transport contract waste in accordance with the targets and service requirements set out in its service agreement.
The tender process has given key considerations to Lancashire County Council’s low carbon future work programmes, social value and its sustainability objectives, all of which have been a key factor throughout the process of setting up the contract.
The Volvo tractor units set to be used have been manufactured at a carbon-neutral facility and have a series of features designed to achieve between 2-5% fuel efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint during the duration of the contract.
Set up 27 years ago by Chris and Louise Monk, Mellor Brook-based Monks Contractors specialises in waste management, haulage and plant hire services.
