PROSPECT HOMES BUILD CONFIDENCE IN WHALLEY PUPILS AT CAREERS DAY

Pupils from St Augustine’s High School learnt about the foundation of a career in construction when they were visited by Prospect Homes.

The house builder is currently on site in Whalley at its latest development Mitton Grange. The team behind the homes wanted to help pupils from years eight, nine and 10 be as informed as possible about the careers behind building homes.

Head of sales Sam Williams, head of construction Martin Caldwell, land manager Terri-Anne Cross and senior sales executive Zoe Ball spent the afternoon talking to the children about the routes they took into the industry and the timeline of a house from purchasing land to handing over the keys to customers.

Sam Williams said: “When it comes to deciding on a career, it can be overwhelming, especially when you’re still in high school. Our aim was to explain all the roles associated with building homes, not just the well-known construction jobs such as plumbers or bricklayers. It was also great to have such a strong female representation on our panel because we are seeing more women coming into the industry and this is something the team at Prospect Homes are passionate about.”

Pupils were also taught about health and safety on or near building sites.

Assistant Headteacher at St Augustine’s, Joanna Rutter, said: “We were delighted that Prospect Homes could join us for our annual Careers Week. Pupils and staff thoroughly enjoyed the sessions hosted by Prospect Homes, learning about the diverse roles and opportunities available to them on leaving school. It was such a valuable experience for our pupils, enabling them to learn about the world of work, led by such a friendly, diverse and engaging team.”
