Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Integrated Care Partnership have announced the appointment of Dr Salman Shahid to the newly created role of Associate Medical Director.
Dr Shahid, currently serving as Clinical Lead and Senior Business Partner at Rochdale Road Medical Centre in Middleton, will play a crucial role in leading the development and transformation of health and care services across the Rochdale borough. He will provide leadership to clinical leads and contribute to the development of the clinical and care professional model in Rochdale.
In his new position, Dr Shahid will be actively involved in the HMR Locality Board, HMR Primary Care Commissioning Committee, Locality Leadership Team, and the NHS Greater Manchester Wider Leadership Team. His appointment aims to ensure that the clinical voice is represented in decision-making processes and that the existing and emerging clinical and care professional leaders receive the necessary support. Dr Shahid’s work will focus on promoting the health and wellbeing of the population, fostering collaborative working across commissioners and providers, and enhancing integration across organizational boundaries.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the role, Dr Salman Shahid said, “I am excited to represent HMR locality in Greater Manchester (GM) as Associate Medical Director. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with local and GM system leadership to ensure the needs of Rochdale borough residents and communities are met. It is my desire to have better integration of health and social care services at place and at neighbourhood level.”
Dr Shahid brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having trained in hospital medicine and worked as a medical registrar in the north west Region of England. He also holds an MSc in Health & Social Care Management from Oxford. Since 2009, he has been actively involved in primary care, serving as a GP Partner in Middleton. He is also engaged in medical education as a Foundation Programme Clinical Supervisor at North West Deanery and a Medical Student Supervisor and OSCE Examiner at Manchester University.
Throughout his career, Dr Shahid has demonstrated his commitment to improving healthcare services. He has previously served as the Clinical Director of Middleton Primary Care Network (PCN) and led a team of Social Prescribing Link Workers to facilitate integrated health and social care pathways. Dr Shahid is particularly passionate about finding innovative solutions to address modern healthcare challenges, especially in the areas of long-term physical and mental health conditions.
