Man arrested after car travels wrong way on M55

Blackpool police were shocked to be met with a vehicle driving the wrong way down the motorway as they joined the M55.

On Sunday evening, officers were coming on at junction 4 of the M55 eastbound, when they encountered the car.

A 39-year-old man from Preston, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after giving a reading of 84mg at the roadside – almost three times the legal limit of 35mg.

He has been bailed until May 2024 and the car was seized.

Officers also found three adult passengers and four unrestrained young children inside the vehicle.

All passengers were driven to a place of safety off the motorway and all welfare and appropriate child referral agency needs have been put in place.
