Champions League Night Sees Real Madrid Choose Liverpool’s Neapolitan

Neapolitan, Liverpool’s highest-ranked Italian restaurant and pizza venue on TripAdvisor, was recently entrusted by Real Madrid to prepare authentic pizzas for the club’s first team after their Champions League match against Liverpool FC.

In total, 45 pizzas were freshly prepared at Neapolitan’s Lime Street restaurant. Each was hand-stretched, topped and cooked in the wood-fired oven before being delivered to the team in just under an hour.

The decision followed an approach from Real Madrid’s representatives two weeks before the match. After reviewing preparation techniques, ingredient quality and cooking standards, Neapolitan was selected ahead of all other Italian restaurants in Liverpool.

“It was a huge honour to be selected by Real Madrid, who spent weeks preparing for their trip to Liverpool. They are one of the biggest sporting brands in the world, and the feedback we received from them was one of the highlights of our career so far,” said Lorraine, co-owner of Neapolitan.

Neapolitan is operated by Jamie and Lorraine, whose shared commitment to traditional Neapolitan pizza has brought widespread recognition. Jamie was recently invited by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN) to serve as a judge at the UK Pizza Championships, reflecting the restaurant’s growing reputation.

As the only independent AVPN-certified pizzeria in Liverpool and Merseyside, Neapolitan focuses on producing authentic wood-fired pizzas crafted in line with traditional Neapolitan methods.

The restaurant’s achievements were further recognised when it was named “Pizzeria of the Year 2025/26” for the North West by the Prestige Awards.

Guests can enjoy watching pizzas being prepared in the open kitchen, visible from across the restaurant, or choose seats at the Chef’s Table for a closer view of the process.

Neapolitan’s commitment to quality and customer experience has resulted in a 4.9-star average rating across review platforms, supported by more than 4,000 reviews. The restaurant has also earned TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

“Being recognised as Pizzeria of the Year and Liverpool’s number one Italian restaurant is an incredible honour. Everything here is made with passion, from our fermented 24-hour in-house dough to our made-to-order pastas. Every dish is crafted with love and authenticity in mind, and we’re all so proud to share it with the people of Liverpool,” Lorraine said.

Based in Liverpool city centre, Neapolitan is a popular choice for pre-theatre meals, football matchdays and post-shopping dining. It is also frequently chosen for celebrations including birthdays, anniversaries and graduations.

The menu features traditional pizzas, freshly made pasta and Italian starters, along with dairy-free, vegan and gluten-free options to suit a wide range of dietary needs.

Neapolitan is located just a short walk from Liverpool Lime Street Station, with nearby parking options available, and is open seven days a week from midday.
