CS Storage highlights the potential impact of the new 12 sided £1 coin on payment locker providers

CS Storage, a Preston based UK leader in the provision of storage lockers, has today issued a warning to facility managers of Companies, Sports Centres; Gyms; Hotels etc. about the need to have a plan in place to cope with the potential impact of the new 12 sided £1 coin shape on the operating of payment lockers.

At the moment, many organisations use the existing round sided £1 coin as the locking mechanism in employee and customer lockers. The new 12 sided £1 coin will be introduced on 28 March 2017 and all existing £1 coins will be recalled by midnight 15 October 2017.

Unfortunately, this will mean that unless lock modifications are made, the existing £1 coin operated locker mechanism may no longer work, causing confusion and inconvenience for many users.

Commented Stuart Jardine, Operations Director, CS Storage: “The good news is that we have over six months to make the modifications but we are expecting a heavy demand. Consequently, we are asking our customers to consider the changeover asap, once the new 12 sided coins have been introduced.

“The actual work requires the locking mechanism to be replaced and for some organisations, this could mean hundreds of individual lockers. You need to be contacting a locker specialist like CS Storage now, to arrange a time for this work to take place. If you leave it to the last minute, you may find that you are in a long queue, or stocks may have run out and your operating deadline may not be guaranteed.

“Furthermore, in busy public venues, CS Storage is prepared to install new revenue share lockers for free, which are new £1 coin ready. This option will save the operator the cost of replacing the locks altogether.”

Finally, if any organisation would like free advice on how to manage the transformation, they should contact Stuart on 01772 322634.
