The team behind an annual festival designed to inspire the next generation of scientists is calling for sponsors to get behind this year’s upcoming event.
The award-winning Lancashire Science Festival, which is organised by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will run from June 29 – July 1 at the University’s Preston City Campus.
The festival is a free three-day event, designed to engage the local community in a programme of activities, workshops and interactive demonstrations related to science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and more.
First held in 2012, over 15,000 visitors are expected to visit over the three days this summer.
Led by Festival Director Dr Jo Heaton-Marriott, the event is organised by a team from UCLan’s Communications and Engagement Office. Now Dr Heaton-Marriott, who is Acting Director of Communications and Engagement at UCLan, is encouraging people to come forward and show their support to enable the event to remain free to attend.
Dr Heaton-Marriott said: “The Lancashire Science Festival is a fantastic event which opens people’s minds up to the wonderful world of science with many benefits for the local community, and we’re proud that we deliver the event for free.
“However, to continue doing so we really rely upon our sponsors, contributors and volunteers and we’re always looking for more to get on-board. For anyone who thinks they might be able to play a part in supporting the festival, no matter how small or large, we’d really encourage you to get in touch to find out how you can get involved.”
Companies which have supported the Lancashire Science Festival include BAE Systems, the National Nuclear Laboratory, Fort Vale Engineering, the Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Physics.

The team which organises the festival has also recently been shortlisted for the External Relations Team of the Year accolade at the 2017 Educate North awards. They will discover if they’ve been successful at a ceremony on April 27 at the Hilton Deansgate, Manchester.
