Pioneering workplace mental health conference returns

Employers across the county have the opportunity to improve mental health in their place of work as the county’s leading mental health charity, Lancashire Mind, gets set to deliver its second Workplace Wellbeing Conference. The event, which is the only one of its kind available in Lancashire, is entitled ‘Time to Talk About Wellbeing at Work’. The conference aims to continue to raise awareness of the value of workplace wellbeing and promote the business case for supporting wellbeing at work. It will focus on simple and practical steps employers can take no matter their size or resource.

The full day event, which will be held at the Preston Marriott Hotel on 7 February 2019, is being organised by Lancashire Mind in partnership with Lancashire Care Foundation Trust and the Federation For Small Businesses.

National Charity Mind has recently released Key Findings From The Workplace Wellbeing Index 2017/18 which found that from a survey of 44,000 staff over 74 organisations, 59% of respondents would always go to work with poor mental health even though they would benefit from time off.  Yet a quarter of those organisations stated they did not monitor staff wellbeing or mental health.

Lancashire Mind CEO Tommy McIlravey said: “Workplaces are beginning to realise the competitive edge that looking after staff wellbeing gives them but the statistics released by Mind show that we still have work to do to get to where we need to be. It’s not just about reducing days off sick. While that’s clearly important, good mental wellbeing helps employees have the confidence to share ideas, become better team mates and more productive in the workplace.”
