Triton Construction has secured a contract through competitive tender to provide a £1.95 million extension to allow Bolton Muslim Girls School to increase its intake capacity.
The best performing school in the district announced that it plans to take an extra 150 pupils, raising its capacity to 750 over the next five years. It secured planning consent in December 2019 for the extension which includes the redevelopment of two floors in an adjacent mill building on Swan Lane. It will enable the school to add design and technology, domestic sciences and drama to its curriculum.
Working alongside AA Projects Ltd, which is undertaking Project Management, Contract Administration, Cost Consultancy and Principal Designer roles, Triton Construction is currently on site converting the top two floors of the mill building to provide 8,600 sq ft of new classroom space with a communal hall and toilet block. A new plant room will be situated on the upper floor. The brief also includes the construction of a four-storey steel framed stair and lift core to provide access to the new levels.
A significant part of the brief to Triton is to provide the full mechanical and engineering fit-out to the derelict space with new ventilation, lighting, power and cooling.

The ground and first floors of the mill building have existing business tenants and so we will continue to work within a live environment, through the start of the academic year until planned handover in late 2020. We are collaborating with all parties on a continued basis to apply value engineering at all stages in the project.”
Triton Construction has extensive experience in all areas of the education sector with current projects including a new £3.5 million teaching block for Chorlton Park Primary School in Manchester and a £2 million extension block for Pennistone Grammar School in Barnsley.
Recently completed projects include a new £3.5 million building at Kirkhamgate Primary School in Wakefield and a £900,000 contract to refurbish three laboratories and ancillary areas at Ripon School. Triton has also completed a new library and further refurbishments for Leeds College of Music, a £2.3 million High Needs Vocational Centre for Shipley College, a £3.5 million science block and state of the art learning link for Bradford Grammar School and a £4 million transformation of a derelict building to house Norfolk Park Special School in Sheffield.
