Derian House goes green for 29th birthday

THERE was a sea of green at Derian House Children’s Hospice on Friday for the return of Derian Day in celebration of the charity’s 29th birthday.

Supporters, staff and volunteers donned their Derian T-shirts and socks to take on challenges in celebration of the big day (7 October).

14-year-old Junior, who uses Derian’s services, celebrated Derian Day with a trip to The Trafford Centre in his Derian socks and ~T-shirt to watch a film.

Leigh Centurions rugby star Josh Charnley dropped by the hospice with some Derian Day balloons donated by his wife Zoe (@lilies_andlace), and TikTok star Robyn Elphick (@robynnmia) used her platform to encourage her 50,000 followers to wear Derian green!

And that’s not all – charity mascot Derian Danni made an appearance for some fun and games, the fundraising team got glittery, and the Derian chefs got busy in the kitchen baking some green goodies.

Derian House charity shops also got in on the action by creating eye-catching green window displays and selling a range of special Derian Day merchandise.

Sarah Proctor, Community Fundraiser at Derian House, said: “It was great to see everyone in green to celebrate Derian Day. Thank you to everyone that took part – now we’re looking forward to our big 30th birthday next year!

“In 2022 it will cost £5.7 million to run services at Derian House. With just 17% of this coming from government funding, we need your support. By getting involved, you’re helping us to continue to care for the children and young people who need us most.”

Derian House Children’s Hospice opened in 1993 and will mark its 30th birthday in 2023.
