Dementia care workshop hosted by Burscough Manor Care Home

Lancashire families and caregivers supporting loved ones with dementia were offered the chance to take part in a free workshop organised by Burscough Manor Care Home.

The event provided attendees with a deeper understanding of dementia and practical advice on how to help family members after a diagnosis.

Part of a series of workshops across the Sandstone Care Group’s homes, this session offered the community of Ormskirk and surrounding areas, vital advice and support to help them understand and prepare for caring for a loved one with dementia.

Jay Chaplin, regional training and development manager at Sandstone Care Group, led the four-hour workshop. She said: “Receiving a dementia diagnosis can be overwhelming for both the individual and their loved ones. Many families are navigating these waters for the first time, and it can feel like a significant challenge. Our goal is to provide them with practical tools and advice to help them offer the best possible support.”

Also speaking at the workshop was Laura Roberts from Age UK Lancashire, adding her perspective on providing the right kind of support, specific to friends and family with dementia care needs.

Lizzie Brighouse, home manager at Burscough Manor Care Home, said: “Watching a loved one experience dementia is never easy. That’s why we were delighted to host this workshop and provide the local community with valuable resources and advice. We’re excited to continue growing our dementia care services and look forward to welcoming new residents to our family at Burscough Manor.”
