Saira Hussain Shortlisted for Fazlur Rahman Khan Award for Excellence in Engineering, Science and Technology
Saira Hussain, founder of HAD & Co, has been recognised as one of three finalist for the Fazlur Rahman Khan Award for Excellence in Engineering, Science and Technology in the prestigious Muslim News Awards for Excellence 2026. This recognition comes as a result of her outstanding contributions to the field of architecture and her commitment to empowering future generations.
Born and raised in Burnley, Saira holds degrees in Architecture & Interior Design, Architectural Technology and Building Surveying from Huddersfield and Northumbria Universities. Finalist/winner of 50+ awards throughout her professional career.
As the founder of HAD & Co, Saira leads a female-led architectural and planning practice based in the North, covering Burnley, Blackburn, Manchester, and beyond. Her firm specialises in a range of services, including architecture, planning, enforcement, appeals, and certificates of lawfulness, contributing significantly to the built environment.
In addition to her professional achievements, Saira has recently completed an academic paper focusing on the safety of women in construction. She has dedicated much of her career to inspiring and training young individuals, especially women, to pursue careers in this industry.
An event honouring the finalists will be held in July in Central London. Previous distinguished assembly of guests have included notable figures such as His Majesty King Charles III and several former Prime Ministers.
Saira stated, “I am truly honoured to be recognised in this capacity. This award reflects not only my individual journey but the collective efforts of many who support and promote diversity in engineering and architecture.”
