Preston Market Hall nears completion

Customers old and new can look forward to shopping in the new Preston Markets early next year. The stunning new Market Hall building is approaching completion and, following consultation with traders, will open on Monday 12 February.

Prior to that the Outdoor and Second Hand Market will already be trading from the newly restored and repaved 1875 Canopy with brand new market stalls in early December. The innovative Box Market – where upgraded shipping containers will provide contemporary trading spaces and a unique shopping environment not found anywhere else in the north west – will open alongside the new Market Hall in February.

Councillor Robert Boswell, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for environment at Preston City Council, said: “The Market Hall, which is due for completion early December, is almost complete. With the installation of stall partitions, and glass walling and tiling almost finished, you get a real sense of what a wonderful trading and shopping space this will become.

“We now look forward to the opening of the Market Hall in February with great excitement.”

Sam Livesey, Chairman of the Preston Market Traders Association, added: “After several years of planning and hard work the traders are excited that the new Market Hall will be opening on 12th February. The building is already looking great and we can’t wait to make the move.

“In the meantime we look forward to serving our loyal customers from our current home over the Christmas period.”
