North By North West – Preston’s multi-venue event

Venues in Preston city centre are set to host a suite of guest artists and musical acts on Saturday 22 September for the North By North West event.

14 different venues are staging acts featuring performances from over 40 musicians as part of the event.

Live music and guest performers will take to the stage across the day, in the early evening and early into the Sunday with Karen Harding closing the event.

North By North West has been staged to coincide with the return of Preston’s student population and additional visitors coming to the city centre as part of the Lancashire Encounter festival.

The event will close with headline performances from The Sherlocks and Jaguar Skills.

The event, co-ordinated by BID’s Preston At Night group in association with venues, is a first for the city and is being supported by Cool Media Marketing.

Alongside traditional bars, pubs and clubs, an eclectic mix of buildings will be used for the event including Preston’s Minster – and independent record shop, Action Records, who will be hosting an album launch and mini-performance as part of the event.

Many of the performances are free to attend, with some requiring paid for tickets which are available from the venues directly.

Peter Alexander of Blitz, one of the co-ordinators of North By North West, said: “There is something very special about live music, Preston is fortunate to have a vibrant music scene, and putting an event like North By North West to showcase musicians, in various venues around the city, is going to make for a very exciting day. I am proud that so many of Preston city centre’s pubs, bars and clubs have collaborated to make this event possible. I hope that this year’s North By North West celebration is a springboard for more live music in Preston and bigger events in the future.”

Mark Whittle from Preston BID said: “It’s a first for the city and we’re very much looking forward to bringing this event to life, the venues involved have worked tirelessly to make North By North West a great event, we hope that they can rely on the support of gig go’ers and Preston residents by attending some of the brilliant performances.”

Dan Morris from LiVe at The Guild Hall, staging ALTR at the Minster, said: “There’s some amazing names on the bill for North By North West, the city has pulled out all the stops to bring some top bands, singers, musicians and DJ’s to Preston. The city will be buzzing that weekend.”
