University opens new department dedicated to professional learning across the North West

Edge Hill University has opened a new department dedicated to career development and meeting the professional learning needs of education providers and businesses and organisations across the North West.

The new Department of Professional Learning brings together existing professional and part-time postgraduate study options for teachers and other education professionals.

Offering accredited courses in special educational needs, inclusion, dyslexia and dyscalculia (mathematical learning disability), the department also offers the national Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) qualification and a Masters degree.

Professor Amanda Fulford, Head of the Department of Professional Learning, said: “The launch of the Department is a great opportunity to showcase our work, and to further develop our offer to the sector.

“We are keen to talk to colleagues about their needs, and to offer professional development sessions aimed at all different kinds of staff working in education.

“We want to meet the specific professional development needs of education providers, businesses and organisations, by not only offering accredited courses, but also by responding to their bespoke professional learning needs. We are keen to work with partners to develop more tailored professional learning within their place of work.

“I am immensely proud of our exceptionally skilled and qualified staff who bring a wealth of specialist experience from work in education, from their research, consultancy, and work with national and international bodies.

“We are keen to support professional learning in education at all career stages and in a variety of contexts. Through our work supporting professional learning with our partners, we are committed to create ‘career-long belonging’ within the Department and the University.”
