Senior business leaders of today and tomorrow can enhance their career prospects and future-proof their organisations through a highly-regarded Lancaster University Masters course.
The Senior Leaders Masters Degree Apprenticeship programme offers leaders from across the UK flexible, fully online digital delivery built around their workloads. The programme fees are fully funded in 2020 through the Government’s Apprenticeship Levy.
Apprentices tackle work-based projects and develop strategic leadership skills through the quadruple-accredited and world-ranked Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) and apply them in the workplace.
The course is already established to run completely online through LUMS’ Centre for Executive Education and Development, allowing apprentices from across the UK the benefits of a smooth and comprehensive e-learning programme.
“We have long seen digital delivery as a key facet for our executive education courses and are accustomed to providing first-class education through e-learning and distance learning,” said Dr Debbie Simpson, Director of Executive Education in LUMS.
The Senior Leaders programme offers flexible workplace learning designed to integrate with and benefit apprentices’ day-to-day roles. It focuses on areas including innovation, leading change, and entrepreneurship & strategy – key subjects for senior managers – through workshops, masterclasses, regular tutorials and workplace visits, all carried out digitally.
Students build a flexible programme, and prior experience and learning can fast-track learning by a year. They will learn alongside a network of peers from different departments, organisations and sectors, each with their own knowledge and experience, and benefit from individual mentoring with regular review sessions that shape and guide their studies.
“The Senior Leaders Masters programme provides the opportunity for up-and-coming and established leaders to learn and grow, benefitting themselves and their organisations,” said SLMDA Scheme Director Dr Katie Willocks.
“We know from speaking to employers who have used the programme that it helps them to build a talent pipeline for the rising stars in their organisation, while also providing the launchpad for organisational transformation through their learning.”
The course is endorsed by leading professional bodies the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), and is suitable for people working in the public, private and third sectors, typically with a minimum of three years’ management or leadership experience. The degree is tailored to meet the requirements of Senior Leader Apprenticeship standards and competency requirements of the CMI and ILM.
Fees for this year’s courses are fully-funded for employers through the Government’s Apprenticeship Levy – with a 95% subsidy for non-levy employers – for the final time. The application process is now open for staring the programme in September and December 2020.

Morning sessions are available on Fridays, June 19, July 17, August 21 and September 18, all starting at 8.30am. An evening session, starting at 7pm, takes place on Thursday, June 25.
