Preston based Wareing graduate achieves Chartership

Wareing Buildings is continuing to expand its cohort of chartered engineers, with a former engineering graduate the latest in the business to secure the industry accreditation.

Jason Worledge joined Wareing Buildings in 2016 and in the last six years has achieved his Initial Professional Development ahead of recently securing his Chartered status with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Attaining the status required Jason to demonstrate he met nine key engineering attributes – including technical and practical application, management and leadership, independent judgement and commercial ability – alongside gaining day-to-day experience in his full-time role with Wareing Buildings. The final step in his journey to Chartership saw him deliver a 15-minute presentation followed by an hour-long question and answer session and written exam.

Jason said: “Getting to this point has been a long time coming and has taken a lot of hard work.

“Achieving Chartership has been my main driver for the last five years, and I’ve been lucky enough to have the backing and support of Wareing Buildings at every stage. They’ve given me the means, the experience, the tools and advice to achieve the accreditation at my own pace, and now I want to continue demonstrating that the faith they have always put in me has been worth it by doing everything I can to take the business from strength the strength.”

Since joining the business as a graduate and while studying for his Chartership, Jason was assigned a mentor within Wareing Buildings – Alastair Harrison – who retired from the business before Christmas. Jason will now come full circle, having taken on the role of mentor for the business’ newest graduate.

Jason added: “Studying for a Chartership is a big undertaking, and Alastair felt that as much as me. The business has welcomed a new graduate in Joshua Newman, and I hope to be as supportive a mentor to him as Alastair was for me.

“Achieving Chartership is a brilliant milestone, and I’d encourage anyone entering the industry to prioritise it early in their career. By learning good practice from day one, you can chip away at your Chartership over time – although there’s lots of hard work involved too!

“Now, my focus will be on encouraging Joshua to embrace studying alongside his day-to-day role, as well as advancing my own technical skillset and professional development.”

Chris Wareing, director at Wareing Buildings, said: “We encourage every member of our team to always better themselves, whether that’s through official accreditations like the Chartership, or through CPDs and technical training.

“Jason embodies everything we hope to see in graduates that join us – tenacity, a willingness to learn and passion for what he does every single day. We’re proud of Jason and can’t wait to see what he achieves next.”
