UK’s Inspirational Strength Coach, Helen Redhead, Aims for Glory at World Powerlifting Championships

Helen Redhead, an inspirational strength coach, has been selected to represent the United Kingdom at the upcoming World Powerlifting Championships. With her remarkable dedication and commitment to strength training, Helen Redhead has become a formidable force in the world of powerlifting.

In recent years, the number of individuals struggling with eating disorders in the UK has been on the rise. Current estimates suggest that between 1.25 and 3.4 million people across the country are currently affected by some form of the condition, while the NHS has revealed that it is now treating more young people than ever before.

Helen Redhead’s journey to the World Powerlifting Championships is a remarkable story of resilience and triumph over adversity. For over 30 years, she battled severe eating disorders, including anorexia and bulimia, which took a toll on her physical and mental health. At her lowest point, she weighed just under five stone (32 kg).

However, Helen’s life took a transformative turn when she discovered the power of weight training and powerlifting. This newfound passion not only helped her overcome her eating disorders but also propelled her into the world of competitive powerlifting.

Under the guidance of her coach, Jason Swalwell, himself a British Champion and a person in recovery from alcoholism, Helen’s strength and skills improved dramatically. The two formed a strong partnership, working together remotely for nine months before Helen relocated to Kent, where Jason’s dedicated gym provided the ideal environment for her to focus on her training and recovery.

In July, Helen achieved a significant milestone by winning her class in the British Championships, earning her a spot to represent the UK at the World Powerlifting Championship. The event is scheduled to take place in Manchester on November 23.

Helen’s journey serves as an inspiration to many, especially those battling eating disorders. Her resilience and determination to overcome adversity through the power of strength training demonstrate the transformative potential of fitness and a supportive community. Her story is a beacon of hope for individuals seeking to turn their lives around.

Speaking about her upcoming participation in the World Powerlifting Championships, Helen expressed her honor and gratitude for the opportunity. She acknowledged the role of powerlifting and weight training in saving her life and credited her coach, Jason, for his unwavering support and guidance.

Jason Swalwell also praised Helen’s remarkable transformation and expressed confidence in her ability to excel at the World Championships. He highlighted the importance of Helen’s story as an inspiration for people facing challenges and commended her dedication and progress.

Helen Redhead‘s journey from battling severe eating disorders to representing the UK at the World Powerlifting Championships is a testament to the transformative power of determination, resilience, and the pursuit of one’s passion. Her story is a source of inspiration for individuals facing adversity and a reminder of the positive impact of fitness and support on mental and physical well-being.
