Paris Olympics: Nadal and Alcaraz to pair up for doubles

Spanish duo Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz will pair up to become doubles partners at the Paris Olympics next month.

Tennis is set to be played on Nadal’s favoured clay courts at Roland Garros, where the recent French Open took place.

Alcaraz won his third Grand Slam on the streets of Paris on Sunday and is well-acquainted with the clay surface, while Nadal has won 14 of his 22 majors at Roland Garros.

Both have become fan favourites in France and spectators will be flocking in their masses to see them after it was confirmed they will pair up to represent Spain at the Olympics.

National team coach David Ferrer said: “One pair, which I think everyone knows and was hoping for, is Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.

“Rafa and Carlos will be playing together in Paris.”

Alcaraz will be making his debut at the games but will have plenty of experience alongside him for the doubles tournament.

Nadal won Olympic gold at Beijing in 2008 and will likely be featuring for the last time in Paris.

His early exit from the French Open has further heightened belief that the legendary sportsman will retire at the end of the year.
