Notts Sport Unveils CocoTurf: A Revolutionary Plastic-Free Alternative to Artificial Grass

Notts Sport, a leading UK expert in play and sports surfacing, has launched CocoTurf, the world’s first plastic-free artificial grass, crafted entirely from natural coconut fibres. This groundbreaking innovation provides an eco-friendly, durable, and high-performance solution for playgrounds and recreational spaces while reducing the environmental impact of synthetic turf.

As sustainability becomes a global priority, Notts Sport has taken a significant step by creating a non-plastic alternative to conventional artificial grass. Traditional synthetic turf is often made from plastic materials, contributing to pollution and environmental degradation. CocoTurf, however, is free from plastics, microplastics, and per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), ensuring a safer and more responsible play surface.

CocoTurf is produced using coconut husks, a renewable and biodegradable resource, which is processed into durable, high-performance fibres. Its backing is made from certified natural rubber latex, making the product 100% plastic-free and non-toxic. This makes CocoTurf the perfect choice for playgrounds, schools, parks, and other public spaces that require a safe and sustainable surfacing option.

The environmental benefits of CocoTurf are significant. Unlike traditional artificial turf, which can release microplastics into the environment, CocoTurf naturally decomposes, reducing pollution and helping to protect ecosystems. The use of coconut fibres also lowers the carbon footprint associated with the production of synthetic grass. Designed for long-term use, CocoTurf withstands extreme weather conditions and ensures durability in high-footfall areas.

Each coconut provides approximately 200 grams of usable fibres, and 600 coconut husks are required to produce enough material to cover 60 square metres of play area.

Duncan Bennett, CEO of Notts Sport, expressed his enthusiasm for this industry-first product: “This is a milestone in the evolution of outdoor play surfaces. Our drive to find ever more sustainable surfacing solutions has led us to invent the world’s first non-plastic synthetic grass—CocoTurf. This is not just another product—it’s a revolution in sustainability. For the first time, communities can install an artificial surface without the harmful impact of plastics. This is the future of play surfaces, and we’re thrilled to lead the charge.”

CocoTurf’s innovative design and outstanding performance make it the ideal choice for those looking to invest in safe, durable, and environmentally responsible play surfaces. It is set to redefine playgrounds and public spaces, offering an eco-friendly alternative that meets the highest safety and performance standards while reducing the ecological footprint of synthetic turf.

With the introduction of CocoTurf, Notts Sport is championing a greener future for outdoor recreational areas. By choosing CocoTurf, communities can enjoy the benefits of artificial grass without compromising the health of the planet or future generations.
