Uninsured motorist jailed for reckless driving in Rossendale

A uninsured van driver who drove dangerously through Rossendale and Ramsbottom, has been jailed.

Thomas Howard (pictured) ignored police officers who signalled for him to stop, as he drive a Mercedes Sprinter van on September 14, 2024.

It was only when 32-year-old Howard became unable to negotiate a narrow bridge in Ramsbottom, that he got out of the vehicle and ran off.

Following a short chase, Howard was arrested for dangerous driving, failing to stop, disqualified driving, drug driving and having no insurance.

In February, at Blackburn Magistrates Court, the offender, of Chapel Street, Brierfield, was jailed for 32 weeks and disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving licence for three years and 112 days.

Rossendale neighbourhood inspector Matt Plummer said: “Howard drove dangerously including overtaking and driving on the wrong side of the road.

“I am pleased he has been given a custodial sentence and been made accountable for his dangerous actions.

“This outcome should be an important reminder of the serious consequences of dangerous driving, and the impact it can have on our communities.”
