Skipton Building Society supports Burnley homelessness charity

Skipton Building Society has given a day of training and support to formerly homeless people from the charity Emmaus Burnley.

In July, 10 community members of Emmaus Burnley received help with CV writing and money management from Andy Sutcliffe, Skipton Building Society’s Burnley Branch Manager.

Andy said: “It’s been great to be able to help the people at Emmaus Burnley. We looked at what essentials need to go on a CV, advice for personal statements and some basic interview techniques. In the afternoon we covered some practical budgeting techniques and looked at future focussed money management essentials.”

Emmaus Burnley supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. The charity operates two social enterprises in Burnley and Accrington with all the money raised used to support the community of people who live and work at Emmaus Burnley.

Megan Whiteley, one of the community members at Emmaus Burnley who benefitted from the training, said: “I really enjoyed the course and got a lot from it. The savings advice was very useful. Putting your needs before your wants was something I will definitely take away from the course.”

Stephen Buchanan, Director at Emmaus Burnley, said: “The support offered by Skipton Building Society is extremely useful in helping our community members on their journey out of homelessness. Andy’s help and advice was very well received and we look forward to working with the Burnley branch again.”
