Lancashire woodworker supports sustainable brewing

William Firth’s commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices has been endorsed by a feature on prime-time TV when Jamie Oliver endorsed one of his customers.

Brighton based Good Things Brewing Co. featured in the current series of ‘Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast’. Aiming to be the “world’s first self-sustaining brewery”, they recycle their used grain into top grade flour.

In a drive to reduce plastics, they commissioned William, who works from a workshop near his home in Scorton, near Lancaster, to make natural wood fixtures and fittings for their taproom.  When chef Jamie visited the Brewery, he praised their use of sustainabsle materials to maintain a distinctive, environmentally friendly brand.

William said: “We were very proud when Good Things Brewing commissioned tap handles from us for their Pale Ale and IPA.  Working together, we created hand painted and etched handles from European Beech, which look beautiful and will last a lifetime.  It was great to work with such a forward thinking brewery that shares our vision on environmental commitment and sustainability.”

William’s 100% handmade wooden kitchenware, decorative items and furniture are now being sought by some high profile supporters.  He added: “2018 saw us expanding our commercial work, bringing new opportunities to create personalised products, imprints and branding.  With the rise in craft brewing and smaller producers in the hospitality trade, there’s been a real resurgence in interest in bespoke fittings and sustainability.  Marrying functionality with beauty for our customers, is what makes every new step for the business truly exciting.”
