Universal Smart Cards wins Queen’s Award for Enterprise

A Hyndburn based business has been recognised by the Queen after receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
Established in 2001 by directors Michael Smith and Chris Allen, Universal Smart Cards (USC) is a market leader in the manufacture and supply of smart products and solutions.
The company was originally founded in Hertfordshire, and now has its Sales & Marketing teams based in Lancashire at Rising Bridge, Accrington, and the Technical and Fulfilment Centre in Portsmouth.
Having shipped over 136 million smart products worldwide, USC have a vast amount of knowledge and experience. This has allowed them to offer a wide array of smart cards, card readers and accessories, alongside several smart solutions such as location and condition monitoring services.
For many years USC have supported international trade having sold to customers throughout Europe and the Middle East. They have also recently added important contracts in South America and Australia.
One key element of the proactive Export Strategy was the expansion into USA, which has seen them open an office in San Diego, California. Ultimately, this had led to us increasing our international trade tenfold and receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
Universal’s Sales and Marketing Director, Paul May, commented: “We are all absolutely delighted to have received this award for all the hard work and commitment that the team have put into developing our international trade strategy and relationships with customers. I’d like to register my thanks to every member of the team.  It’s great to see the export strategy is bearing fruit.”
I have heard that previous winners say that the Queen’s Award helps how business even further. I look forward to attending Buckingham Palace later this year and meeting the other winners.”
