Northstone starts work on new homes in Pendle

Following planning approval in June 2020, northern-based place maker and homebuilder Northstone has begun work on 239 family and energy-efficient homes in Pendle, Lancashire.

The 23-acre development, named Keld, at Trough Laithe in Barrowford will provide a range of homes from two-bed cottages to four-bed properties and 20% of the site will be a combination of shared ownership and affordable rent to help meet local housing demand.

Northstone, part of Peel L&P, creates homes led by thoughtful and modern design inside and out with electric vehicle charging capability and innovative technology to help residents significantly reduce their energy bills.

Under the outline permission for the site, Northstone and Peel L&P will also contribute towards local school provision, highways work at J13 of the M65, and improving public transport in the area. The scheme will also complement the surrounding countryside and improve pedestrian routes and cycleways for the existing community.

Craig Nutter, Commercial Director at Northstone said: “We provide quality homes with an emphasis on sustainability, design and efficiency, giving home buyers flexible layouts to suit their style of living and energy saving features to help reduce fuel bills.

“Homes at Keld will be suitable for first-time buyers, families and downsizers and we’re pleased to have worked with the council to secure homes that will also help to meet the area’s affordable housing needs in partnership with a registered provider.”

The word Keld derives from old English and means ‘deep, smooth, still part of a river’. The name was inspired by Pendle Water, located nearby the site. Keld is Northstone’s second housing development with its first scheme of 150 homes in Westhoughton, Silkash now available for purchase.

Northstone features pedestrian-led streets in its schemes to help reduce traffic speeds and create a safer environment for children to play with pocket parks and mature landscaping to help create a sense of community and encourage a more neighbourly environment.

Launched in October 2018 to create exceptional homes, stylish environments, and places for modern living for future generations, Northstone also has upcoming sites in Wigan, Bolton and Ellesmere Port.
