How to ensure your business computer is safe and secure

Cybercrime is predicted to cost the world $10.5 trillion annually by 2025. This is up from $6 trillion in 2021. Whether you use a computer for business or personal browsing, it’s important you’re protected. In this guide, we’ll look at some of the key ways you can keep you computer secure. That way, you will reduce your chances of being hit by cybercrime, losing money and privacy as a result.

If you have kids, chances are you worry about what they access online. It’s a fair thing to be fearful of, both in terms of the nature of content, but also the risk of viruses and identity theft.

Whether you have a family computer or your family has their own devices, security is key. Set up parental controls to block access to sites meant for adult audiences, consider screen timers, and check what is being browsed. That way, you can understand what is being accessed.

Guess what? It’s crucial you keep your computer’s security software updated. This doesn’t have to be an expensive thing either. According to Tom’s Guide, Windows Defender, Microsoft’s default antivirus software, is one of the best products out there. Just keep it updated!

For mobile devices and an extra layer of security on PCs and laptops, a virtual private network (VPN) can be a good idea. These have all sorts of functionality including the ability to block trackers cybercriminals use. This can prevent others from accessing your personal data.

Make sure that your home network is secure. If it isn’t, then anyone on the street could walk within range, access your Wi-Fi, and access your personal data.

There are a few ways to do this. Set up a very long, difficult password on your Wi-Fi that’s kept in a hidden place in your home. Run a firewall that keeps data even safer. And keep all networking software safely updated.

Even if you have small children, educating them on the dangers of cybercrime is crucial. The more information they’re armed with, the less likely they’ll be to let viruses on your devices. And they’ll also be able to identify bogus sites better. This guide from the NSPCC has lots of tips to help.

Keeping your computer safe is key in 2023. Got any other important tips you use to prevent cybercrime? Let us know in the comments below.
