Vincent Kompany welcomes back Lyle Foster to his starting line-up

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany says the return of striker Lyle Foster is “massive” for his struggling side ahead of Tuesday’s trip to fellow Premier League newcomers Luton.

Following Foster’s red card against Nottingham Forest, Kompany has had to rely on Zeki Amdouni and Jay Rodriguez up front, but the duo have failed to fire with the Clarets still winless in six games.

Foster’s return means the Belgian is now optimistic his side will now be able to convert the chances they are creating.

“It’s massive,” he said. “Zeki [Amdouni] and Jay Rodriguez have done well with the time they’ve had up top, and in every game, we’ve had at least two or three big chances. We’re not lacking goals for the lack of creating chances, we just don’t put them away.

“We have to believe. Performances are good and we keep creating chances, but playing top sides is difficult. But we have to believe we’re on the right track to get results.”

Kompany is confident positive results will soon arrive if they maintain their level of performance.

He added: “We are six games in. If you look at the first half and second half of our games, plus the cup games in the middle, there have been some good performances, but now it’s about results.

“Always with the idea that performances bring results, and I hope we can materialise that very quickly.

“We’re going to keep fighting for it every single game, and it will come. It’s not been far off.

We’ve been in games. We have to keep doing that. It’s not easy, but eventually, we will get results.”
