Fresh research from Click2Pharmacy has identified a marked regional gap in the use of erectile dysfunction (ED) treatments across the UK, with Northern England prescribing the most by a considerable margin.
Lincolnshire GPs are currently issuing ED medications at a rate of 84.66 per 10,000 people each month—an increase of nearly 50% over the UK’s average prescription rate of 64.6.
A sharp North-South divide emerges in the study, with the North East and Yorkshire prescribing the most at 106.4 per 10,000 people monthly. Following closely behind Lincolnshire were Humber and North Yorkshire (83.45) and South Yorkshire (83.06).
On the other end of the spectrum, North West London recorded the fewest prescriptions—just 44.77 per 10,000 people each month. The Midlands region also showed low overall prescribing rates, averaging 49.5 monthly prescriptions per 10,000 people.
Greater London, despite having the highest reported rate of erectile dysfunction in the country, was only fourth when it came to actual prescriptions, with a monthly average of 63.1 per 10,000 people.
The research, based on Open Prescribing NHS data, found that 4.7 million prescriptions for ED medication were dispensed in 2025, amounting to a cost of £15.7 million for the NHS.
