Kirkham Grammar School has announced the beginning of a significant new era after joining an international education group committed to investing in its future. The agreement provides long-term support for the historic independent school, ensuring it is well positioned to continue delivering high-quality education for generations to come.
The school has been acquired by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Sanstha (MMYS), an internationally respected educational organisation with schools across Australia, the United States and India. Its leadership includes leading academics, researchers and innovators who share a commitment to developing young people through academic excellence, wellbeing, leadership, creativity and strong ethical values.
Operations will continue under Kirkham Grammar International School Limited, a company established by MMYS to oversee governance, strengthen long-term sustainability and maintain educational standards.
The school’s established traditions, academic success and pastoral care will remain central to its identity, while investment will be directed towards facilities, boarding, sport, technology, staff development and international partnerships. Pupils will also benefit from expanded global opportunities, including cultural exchanges and collaboration in STEM, engineering and innovation.
MMYS has pledged to respect the school’s heritage while working closely with its existing leadership team, recognising the experience they bring and their understanding of the school’s history and community.

Chair of Governors Mr Paul Ribchester explained that financial pressures, including inflation, rising costs, higher employer National Insurance contributions and VAT on independent school fees, meant a new ownership structure was necessary to secure the school’s long-term future. He described the acquisition as a positive outcome that protects Kirkham Grammar School’s educational mission.
