Future Decisions Limited Receives Grant from UK Government’s AI for Decarbonisation Programme

Future Decisions Limited is proud to announce its selection as a grant recipient under the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s initiative. This grant, part of the government’s commitment to sustainable technologies through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), will fuel Future Decisions’ pioneering work in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve net zero emissions in the built environment.

United Kingdom – Future Decisions Limited is thrilled to share news of its successful grant application through the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This strategic grant falls within the purview of the government’s Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP), dedicated to propelling sustainable technologies. Through this partnership, Future Decisions is poised to accelerate its groundbreaking efforts in deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to effectively achieve net zero emissions within the built environment.

The substantial grant, accompanied by governmental support, will facilitate the swift advancement of Future Decisions’ AI-driven solutions, which hold the potential to revolutionise energy management in buildings. The innovation is centred on an AI overlayer that seamlessly integrates with existing building control systems, circumventing the need for additional hardware or extensive control system modifications. This forward-looking approach is primed to address the decarbonisation challenges within the built environment, where AI-powered solutions will play a pivotal role in steering the UK towards its ambitious net zero emissions target by 2050.

Dr. Richard McElligott, Director of Future Decisions Limited, shared his enthusiasm: “We are elated by the approval of this grant from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This validation reinforces our unwavering dedication to employing AI as a catalyst for significant change, particularly in the realms of energy efficiency and sustainability within the built environment.”

AI-Enhanced Building Control: Future Decisions is at the forefront of developing AI algorithms that enhance the efficiency of both new and existing building control systems. This involves dynamically adjusting heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation parameters based on real-time occupancy and environmental data, using learned models of human and asset behavior. Preliminary results showcase potential energy savings of up to 60%, contributing significantly to reduced carbon footprints and operational costs for buildings.

Seamless Integration: Central to Future Decisions’ approach is ensuring that the AI solution seamlessly integrates with the existing building infrastructure, eliminating the need for costly upgrades, additional hardware, or rewriting building management system logic.

Augmenting Grid Stability: An added advantage of optimising energy consumption within buildings is the indirect positive impact on grid stability and generation capacity. The AI-powered solutions can anticipate peak demand, aligning green generation and building requirements to prioritise cleaner energy sources and minimise demand during high-pollution grid periods.

Dr. Richard further commented: “Future Decisions is thrilled to contribute to reducing carbon emissions in UK industries and advancing eco-friendly innovation through the application of artificial intelligence (AI). We extend our gratitude to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for the grant, as well as AECOM for their ongoing project support.”
