New figures suggest that while British consumers are eagerly planning their 2025 holidays, many are also turning their attention to home improvements before they go.
Statista’s recent infographic “Miles Before Meals” shows that travel is the leading focus for discretionary spending this year across several global markets, including the UK. Yet home improvement takes a strong fourth place—above categories like fashion, luxury items, and wellness.
This signals that, although Brits are excited to travel, many are determined to ensure their homes are energy-efficient, comfortable, and well-maintained before jetting off.
That may mean tackling smaller repair jobs or investing in more substantial upgrades to help reduce energy use and future bills.
Colin Greenslade, founder of Colin’s Sash Windows, notes that this trend aligns closely with customer behaviour. “People want to enjoy their time away, sure — but they also want to come home to somewhere that’s warm and not costing a fortune to heat,” he said.
“We’ve had customers telling us they’re upgrading before their holidays, just so they’re not dreading the energy bills when they get back.”
The link between energy efficiency and home comfort is a major factor influencing these decisions, especially with rising costs still making headlines.
Colin added: “While the beach might be calling, many are making sure their own front doors are in good shape before they go because no one wants to come back from a relaxing break only to be hit with a cold house and a warm gas bill.”
