Lancashire’s police and crime commissioner Clive Grunshaw has welcomed additional funding from the Home Office to strengthen local neighbourhood policing teams.
The cash injection will see an additional 53 officers, 30 PCSOs and 20 special constables joining Lancashire Constabulary over the coming year to tackle and deter crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB).
The investment forms part of the government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, which promises to strengthen existing neighbourhood teams, increase visible patrols and ensure residents have a named, contactable officer for their area.
Police and crime commissioner Clive Grunshaw said: “The government’s commitment to neighbourhood policing is great news for Lancashire.
“We expect to see an additional staff joining the ranks of Lancashire Constabulary by March 2026, bolstering our front line to fight and deter crime. I know this is exactly what Lancashire residents want to see, more bobbies on the beat, providing a visible deterrent to crime and ASB.
“Neighbourhood policing is a historic strength for our county and has long been a cornerstone of our policing model. It is vital to tackling and preventing all forms of crime and anti-social behaviour from shoplifting to violence against women and girls through to serious organised crime and terrorism. Local officers on the ground, in our communities, are the eyes and ears of the public, gathering intelligence which is invaluable in keeping Lancashire safe.
“It is also fundamental to rebuilding public trust and confidence in policing, a key priority in my Police and Crime Plan for Lancashire, and I will continue to hold the chief constable to account for the delivery of an effective and efficient policing service that meets the needs and expectations of residents.”
The additional investment in neighbourhood policing is on top of the previous £1.7 million secured by the commissioner towards intensified patrols tackling anti-social behaviour and serious violence.
