A variety of Preston-based organisations have been thanked for their support of homelessness charity Emmaus Preston at a special reception at Preston Town Hall.
Mayor of Preston, Councillor Brian Rollo, Mayoress, Trisha Rollo, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Trevor Hart, praised the efforts of supporters of Emmaus Preston. Guests enjoyed lunch at the Town Hall and certificates were presented to organisations that supported Emmaus Preston throughout 2016/17.
Deputy Mayor, Councillor Trevor Hart, said: “I was delighted to be part of the celebration event held at the Town Hall this week. It was a privilege to meet the participants who have added so much value helping Emmaus provide valuable support and turn around the lives of so many. It was inspiring to meet all from a young lad, Chair of a local school council, though to business partners and those working in the stores. Well done to all.”
Emmaus Preston received support including fundraising, employee volunteering and donations of products, food and items for their community building – home to 24 formerly homeless people.
Organisations thanked at the event were Bishop Rawstorne School, Conlon Construction, Costco, Easthams & Co, Geometric Furniture, Graham and Brown, KFC (Deepdale), Mears Carpets, Mr Bux & Family, Nandos, RBS Preston, Ribbleton Avenue Infant School, SMD Textiles, St Wilfrids Parish Church and Tetrad Limited.
Emmaus Preston supports formerly homeless people by providing a home and meaningful work in a community setting. The charity operates two large social enterprises in the city, providing valuable work opportunities whilst generating an income to help sustain the support offered by Emmaus Preston.
John Dean, Chair of Emmaus Preston, said: “Support from local organisations brings an extra dimension to the life of an Emmaus community. With the help of the Mayor, the Deputy Mayor and Preston City Council, our companions had the great opportunity to demonstrate this in person. It was a very happy day and showed the life-changing effects which can be achieved when councils, businesses, local organisations and charities work together for the benefit of homeless people.”
