Planet Pavilion shortlisted for Building of the Decade award

One of John Turner Construction’s, which has an office in Preston iconic projects, the Planet Pavilion at Jodrell Bank Observatory has been shortlisted for the ‘People’s Choice – North West Building of the Decade’ award and will be showcased on BBC North West Tonight.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the North West Property Awards, viewers are asked to vote for their favourite modern building constructed in the last ten years.

Out of 25 shortlisted unique buildings across the region, the Planet Pavilion is up against four other buildings in its category; Cheshire and North Derbyshire. Other regions include Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire along with Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

The Planet Pavilion, the main welcome centre at Jodrell Bank, includes a stylish glass-walled cafeteria with outside terrace and spectacular views of the Lovell telescope. With its bespoke architectural cladding offering an interesting and dynamic perspective, the Planet Pavilion features an exhibition gallery with a centrepiece clockwork Orrery. This is a working scale model of our Solar System and is the largest of its kind in the world.

The winner will be announced at the North West Property Awards organised by Insider Media in May.

This voting competition was last held in 2007 when the Grandstand at Aintree Racecourse won the coveted title.

John Clarke, Managing Director at John Turner Construction said ‘this is great news for such an interesting and eye-catching building to be shortlisted for Building of the Decade. To be in a category with four other iconic buildings across the North West is something to be proud of. Fingers crossed that the Planet Pavilion receives this well deserved recognition.’
