BAE Systems Air, Warton/Samlesbury, has opened its doors to 112 local young people to give them a glimpse of working life.
The company’s UK annual ‘Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day’ supports a global initiative designed to offer young people an insight into work opportunities and to find out more about their parents’ working life.
This year, more than two hundred and fifty 14 to 16 year olds are expected to visit BAE Systems’ sites across the country. At the site in Warton, children were given the opportunity to tour aircraft manufacturing hangars, whilst the event in Samlesbury was based at the state-of-the-art Academy for Skills & Knowledge. A facility which BAE Systems has invested £15million to train apprentices as well as current and future employees.
Richard Hamer, Education & Skills Director at BAE Systems, said: “We invest around £90m every year in early careers, skills development and education activities. This is the thirteenth year we have run the Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work initiative which gives young people an insight into the variety of exciting career options available in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
“As a company, we have great ambitions and a big part of that is ensuring we build a strong pipeline of future talent to continue the work we do. Events like today provide an opportunity for young people to understand more about our business and life at a company like BAE Systems.”
