Lyndhurst Precision Engineering develops its wind turbine solutions

Chorley-based Lyndhurst Precision Engineering has increased production of its new wind turbine solutions, following increased industry demand and the collapse of a leading Canadian engineering firm. As a result, demand for their wind turbine services has increased dramatically, as the industry seeks high-quality and safe engineering solutions.

The precision engineering specialists are increasing the design and production of their bedplates, low speed shafts and braking systems, in response to the need for quick solutions to industry wide design issues, which have resulted in the failure of some of the over 900 wind turbines across the UK.

A typical wind turbine costs in the region of £250,000 and can generate an income of £75,000 per annum, producing more than 6 million kWh of power in a year, enough to supply 1,500 average UK households with electricity.

Lyndhurst is also continuing its wind turbine reverse engineering efforts, with the next project being the re-examining of the current hub design and how it can be improved, ensuring better safety and longevity.

Mark Marriner, Managing Director, Lyndhurst Precision Engineering, said: “Our increased focus on the redesign of essential wind turbine parts, through reverse engineering, has led to us welcoming a new Design Engineer and Project Manager on board, with a view to bringing another two further skilled individuals to the team in the coming months.

“The wind turbine market is proving a valuable opportunity for us, based on our established reengineering skills and established reputation for quality, cost effective solutions.”
