Ruby’s Christmas number one bid brings smiles to children at hospice

A SEVEN-year-old songstress from Chorley has recorded a charity single in the hope of bagging the Christmas number one, and raising money for poorly children.

Little Ruby Whittle wrote “Getting Ready for Christmas” with the help of her grandma Gill and will donate all record sales to Derian House Children’s Hospice.

“I’ve always liked singing and music, and I also love Christmas so I decided to put my favourite things together into  song,” said Ruby, who will perform the festive song on stage at the Chorley Christmas lights switch-on (Sunday, 20 November).

“I started writing the Christmas song last year and did it because I really want to make the children at Derian House happy for Christmas,” she continued.

“I was a bit nervous when I went into the recording studio, but I started enjoying it and got to wear really big headphones.”

Ruby recorded her Christmas cracker at Penwortham recording studio 3507, who gave Ruby the first batch of CDs for free when they found out that she would be donating the proceeds to Derian House.

When asked how she felt about performing on stage at the Chorley Christmas lights switch-on, Ruby said: “I’m a nervous elf, but I’m looking forward to singing and telling everyone about why I want to help the children at Derian House.”

Ruby’s grandma, Gill, said: “We’re all so proud of Ruby. When she came downstairs and performed her song for us I just thought it was so good – too good not to share it with everyone.

“We rang a few recording studios and got a session in at 3507, where they were kind enough to donate the first batch of CDs for free.

“We always support Derian when we can, it’s our local charity and the staff do a lot of good work.”

Kerry Pritchard, Community Fundraiser at Derian House, said: “We’re big fans of Ruby and her Christmas song here at Derian! We’re so grateful that she has chosen to raise money for our children and young people.

“It costs £5.7million to run services at Derian House each year, so we rely on the kindness of our supporters – like Ruby the elf – to help us to raise the vital funds we need. We wish her best of luck on stage at the Chorley light switch-on!”
