- The Electric Car Scheme has announced some of the most cost-effective electric vehicles (EVs) available through salary sacrifice.
- You can now lease the Nissan LEAF and Dacia Spring for less than £200 a month, while the much-loved Tesla Model 3 starts at only £303.
The Electric Car Scheme is showcasing some of the UK’s most affordable EVs, as the prices of electric cars have significantly reduced, thanks to the introduction of new models and the expanding used market.
Affordability is still the biggest obstacle for consumers, with 68% of Britons citing it as their primary concern, outranking issues like running costs, reliability, and range anxiety.
In light of this, drivers will be pleased to hear that, this September, a range of EVs are available for less than £200 a month, coinciding with the return of the 2030 EV deadline.
Below £200 a Month
With a budget of £200 per month, you might expect to cover the cost of a family day out, or, if you’re after an EV, this could lease you a new Dacia Spring from just £153 a month under a salary sacrifice scheme, leaving room to spare for charging.
Alternatively, a used Nissan LEAF Hatchback can be leased from just £195 per month, while a new version would cost approximately £260. The used car market has been a popular choice for customers of The Electric Car Scheme, with nearly half of their sales now coming from pre-owned vehicles.
Under £250 a Month
If you’re looking for more variety while still keeping costs down, salary sacrifice offers a wide selection of EVs under £250 a month. One example from the new car market is the BYD Dolphin, available from just £214 a month, as more affordable Chinese EVs enter the UK.
In the used EV market, there are even more options, including the Renault ZOE Hatchback from £215 a month, the Hyundai IONIQ Electric Hatchback for £223, and the Vauxhall Mokka-e electric Hatchback for £236.
Under £300 a Month
Many people spend more on rail season tickets, particularly those commuting into London, than what it would cost to lease four different EVs from The Electric Car Scheme. These include the Nissan LEAF, Mini Cooper, MG 4, and MG ZS.
The used market offers even more flexibility, and you could lease one of the UK’s favourite EVs, the Tesla Model 3, for just £303 a month.
