Blackburn-based Training for Counsellors, known for its experiential learning approach, is now offering counsellors and psychotherapists the chance to advance their expertise through the newly introduced Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision.
This comprehensive course is designed to equip professionals with the skills needed to become ethical and effective clinical supervisors. Recognised as Advanced Specialist Training by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), the programme reflects high standards of training and its strong relevance within the field.
The course will commence on 10th May 2025 at Haydock House in Blackburn and will be delivered by Samantha Crapnell and Claire Hasting, both of whom are experienced clinical supervisors. Their extensive professional knowledge and lived experiences bring a practical, relational approach to teaching, ensuring participants gain valuable real-world insights.
Targeted at professional counsellors and psychotherapists across private, public, and voluntary sectors, the course focuses on developing supervision skills, exploring unconscious processes, and refining the personal attributes necessary for effective clinical supervision. Blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning, it offers a structured framework to help participants build confidence and competency in working with counsellors, psychotherapists, and other professionals.
The programme consists of monthly cohort-based sessions over 12 months, alongside two additional CPD days. Participants will gain supervised practice hours, allowing them to develop first-hand experience in clinical supervision. The curriculum includes two key supervision models, core competencies, ethical considerations, and unconscious processes within the supervisory relationship.
Upon completion, participants will be qualified to work as Clinical Supervisors in both individual and group settings. The course is designed to recognise and nurture the essential qualities required for skills development, professional discipline, self-awareness, and theoretical understanding. It also provides the opportunity to explore two key theoretical models of supervision, examine core competencies, and apply them to clinical practice. Additionally, participants will gain a deeper understanding of unconscious processes and psychological dynamics, engage with early and current research, and critically evaluate their supervisory practice in a supportive learning environment.
Participants have described the course as both personally and professionally transformative, appreciating the relational and supportive teaching approach at Training for Counsellors. Graduates are already working as clinical supervisors across Lancashire, Manchester, Cumbria, Merseyside, and the South East, providing essential support to counsellors, psychotherapists, trainee therapists, health and wellbeing practitioners, teachers, head teachers, pastoral staff, and managers in the helping professions.
For professionals looking to expand their knowledge and expertise, the Advanced Diploma in Clinical Supervision presents a valuable opportunity to refine essential skills and enhance their supervisory capabilities.
