Search still on for 80-year-old man missing in Tockholes

The search is still on for birdwatcher Brian Fletcher who went missing more than three weeks ago.

Brian (80) travelled from his home in Bury on Saturday, March 22, to Tockholes, an area he visited regularly as a keen walker.

His car was found parked in a layby on the A675, near to Tockholes Road.

Police have carried out extensive searches, covering approximately 36 square kilometres of moorland, woodland, watercourses and reservoirs, for Brian since he was reported missing.

The search teams have been supported by local officers, specialist search dogs, the police helicopter and police plane, the police drone team, the North West police underwater search team, and the mounted branch. Greater Manchester Police have assisted with their search dogs.

Bolton Mountain Rescue, Bowland and Pennine Mountain Rescue, Rossendale Mountain Rescue, Holme Valley Mountain Rescue, Calder Valley Mountain Rescue and Oldham Mountain Rescue, along with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have all assisted the search.

Dashcam and CCTV footage from the area has been viewed extensively during the search for Brian.

All enquiries are now exhausted but police say they will act on any new information that is reported to them.

Brian’s family are aware and fully understanding of the position.

The family have expressed their appreciation of the extensive searches carried out by everyone involved, and to the members of the public who kindly offered their help and assistance in looking for Brian.

If you are in the Tockholes area and see anything which you think might help find Brian, or you were there on March 22, and remember seeing someone match his description, please contact police.

When Brian went missing, it is believed he was wearing a tan-coloured cap, blue jumper and cargo trousers, as in the image above – taken before his visit to Tockholes.

Anyone with information should contact 101 – quoting log 1544 of March 22.
